# Dashboard

     A visual display of key measures and trends, usually refreshed automatically, that lets people monitor performance and spot issues at a glance. A good dashboard is designed around specific decisions rather than all available data.

## Why it matters

     Dashboards are often the most visible output of a data programme, so they shape trust in the whole platform. Too many metrics, unclear definitions or stale data quickly teach people to ignore them.

     The most useful dashboards have a named audience, a small number of measures tied to actions, clear definitions and an owner who retires views that are no longer used.

## In practice

     For example, a UK social care provider might replace a many-tab monthly report with a daily dashboard for care managers showing missed visits, staffing gaps and overdue reviews, each linked to the list of cases requiring action.
