Stream processing
Processing data continuously as events arrive, rather than in periodic batches. It supports use cases that need a response within seconds or minutes, such as fraud checks, operational alerts and live tracking.
Why it matters
Some decisions lose their value if they wait for an overnight batch. Stream processing lets organisations detect and respond to events while they still matter.
Streaming systems are more complex to build and operate than batch pipelines, so they should be used where freshness genuinely changes the outcome. Many organisations combine a small number of streaming flows with batch processing for everything else.

For example, a UK payments provider might process card transactions as a stream, scoring each one for fraud risk within its authorisation window and passing high-risk cases to a review queue.
