Application modernisation

Move the applications your operation depends on to maintainable code, current infrastructure and clear ownership, without disrupting the people who use them.

Application modernisation is often less about rewriting code than about understanding it. We map what an application does, who depends on it and how it is deployed, then migrate, refactor or replace it in stages that keep the operation running.

Map the application before changing it

Older applications carry undocumented integrations, scheduled jobs and business rules that only appear when something breaks. We trace dependencies, data flows, access and deployment, and confirm them with the people who use and support the system. This tells you what can move as it is and what needs to change first.

Choose migrate, refactor or replace per component

Not every part of an application deserves the same treatment. Some components move to current infrastructure unchanged; others need refactoring to be supportable; a few are better replaced with a configured product. We make that choice component by component, based on risk, cost and how often the business needs to change it.

Migrate without disrupting users

We plan cut-overs around the operation's calendar, run old and new versions side by side where needed and agree rollback steps before each change. Deployment, monitoring and access controls are set up on the new platform first, so the migrated application is supportable from the day it goes live.

Hand over systems your team can own

Modernisation is only finished when your team can run and change the system without us. We document the architecture, deployment and support processes and transfer access deliberately. In one engagement we migrated four internal applications and their cloud foundations into a UK entertainment group's ownership, with responsibilities and documentation agreed for the receiving team.
